2015 Favourites

Happy New Year and welcome to our first blog post of 2016 (actually, ever!) Here, we take a look back at some of our stand-out beauty products from 2015. Not gonna lie, it was tough to narrow it down. Let’s just get right into it…

bronzer.jpg
It has to be said, I don’t always wear bronzer. If I’m in a major morning rush, it’s a step I’m likely to skip. However, it has taken me into my 20s to discover this gem, and there’s no looking back.
First things first, it’s MATTE! Yes, fully matte. I struggled for so long to find a bronzer that didn’t have even the tiniest hint of a shimmer particle. Even though it’s a pressed powder it has a lovely silkiness to it, it doesn’t dry out the skin or look cakey. It gives the most natural looking colour I’ve found and it comes in 5 shades, I’m sure there’s one for everyone. I use Golden Light 1.
It’s my go-to product… I use it for bronzing, contouring and sometimes as a transition colour for eyes when I’m doing a darker look.
All in all, it has been one of my top faves in 2015 (and years gone by), and I have no doubt it will continue to be a favourite in 2016 and beyond!

mascara
If I was only allowed to wear one product a day, it would have to be mascara. Being blonde, my eyelashes are quite fair, especially at the tips, so without it I look ill!
However in recent years my eyelids have become really oily, so I found mascaras were just transferring throughout the day.
I went in search of a waterproof and, being a bit short on cash at the time, picked up 17 ‘for a try’. OMG. This mascara – I love it. It never transfers, it is volumising, lengthening, black… what more to you need?! Oh, you want value you for money? Well at £5.99 a go, you’re in luck! It’s super cheap and super reliable.
I will continue to repurchase this product, it’s as if it were made just for me.

eye brows

I arrived a little late to the ‘brow party’. I didn’t really take on the tinting, HD, Scouse Brow trends.
I decided to give this a go on a bit of a whim. I have to say it’s a great product, and I’m on my 3rd this year. It’s very natural, so if you like heavy painted-on brows, I wouldn’t recommend it. The product itself is lightweight, slimline and very easy to carry around. It’s self-sharpening which always a bonus.
The consistency is kind of a cream to a wax, rather than a pencil. From experience, if you make a mistake you can just rub it off. It’s the only thing I’ll use on my brows day-to-day. For a night out, I’ll set them with Benefit Gimme Brow for extra staying power.
I just love how quick and easy it is to do my brows. If I’d known about this product sooner, maybe I wouldn’t have been so late in joining the Brow Revolution!

concealer
I was a bit late to the Naked Skin Concealer party but now that I’ve discovered it, it won’t be leaving my make-up bag any time soon! It comes in 8 shades (I use medium light) and is described as a weightless, complete coverage concealer with a luminous, demi-matte finish. Well I totally agree, it’s all that…. and so much more! I apply this under my eyes and it completely covers my dark circles and evens out the skin leaving it looking flawless, glowing and highlighted without any creasing whatsoever. This colour is perfect for me and with 8 shades to choose from, there should be one to suit everyone. I honestly can’t fault this product, it doesn’t look cakey at all, even if you build up a few layers, and it has a gorgeous luminosity to it that I’ve never seen in a concealer before. It’s £17.50 so it’s not the cheapest of products, however I only use a small amount so I expect it to last me a really long time, and it’s definitely worth every penny! Now I just need to try the foundation that goes with it!

lashes.jpg
Ardell Wispies are my all time favourite lash. They’re a fluttery, feathered style that look natural while adding just the right amount of drama – not a spider’s leg in sight! For a more dramatic look, I sometimes cut a second pair in half and double them up on the outer corner to add some extra definition. The best thing about them is that the band is invisible which makes them easy to apply and means that I don’t have to wear my eyeliner really thick to hide the band. For a more feline look, I go for Demi Wispies which are very similar but shorter on the inside and wing out on the outer edge.
kiko
I had a bit of a spree in Kiko when I discovered the shop while down in London. I’d heard of Kiko but never used their products before, so I was like a kid in a candy shop and came out with a bag full of products. I love everything that I bought but the stand out product for me has been the Long Lasting Eyeshadow Sticks. They come in a variety of colours but my favourite by a mile is number 06 which is a deep shimmery bronze shade which I’ve reached for over and over again. I wear it on it’s own with just mascara in the daytime, or for an evening look, I set it with a powder eyeshadow of the same colour to intensify and make it more long lasting (Mac’s Mulch is perfect for this), then I blend some dark brown or black into the outer corners and add some liner and lashes to create a beautiful bronze smokey eye, perfect for a night out.

So there you have it!
